August wedding flowers are some of the boldest, brightest and most beautiful.
It's the height of the wedding season when days are at their warmest and flowers are at their very best.
It's also the busiest month for weddings so book your suppliers as early as possible.
Here are some of our British seasonal favourites, with ideas for bouquets and buttonholes.
Meaning: Forever yours
Hugely popular in recent, the once old-fashioned bloom as seen a rise in the popukarity stakes for weddings and is now one of the must have flowers. Best late summer to early autumn. If you are handling them be VERY careful, the flowers shatter easily and the soft stems are prone to breaking. Your florist will have remedies for sorting these annoying habits! The range is huge with many different shapes - here are just a few.
Colour choices - most colours, not blue.
Meaning : many meanings, usually Love & Purity.
Roses are a year round flower from florists, however the beautiful choice means you can never have enough of them, especially in August, when they are at their peak. Lots of different sizes are available from tiny "spray" roses, which are lovely for buttonholes and hair flowers to celebrity size 5ft tall blooms! Ask your florist for ideas to tie in with your colour scheme. Whilst it's hard to guarantee varieties for certain days, they can give you lots of choices.
Choose a mixture of sizes to make your wedding bouquet look interesting. Team with textured foliage such as hebe, jasmine or brunnia.
Colour choices - all . (Blue roses are dyed - not recommended).
The small headed varieties are bright and bold for wedding bouquets, certainly a personal choice. The large varieties look spectacular in large floral designs. A happy showy flower.
Normally available till October.
Colours: Bright yellow, orange, russet.
Sunflowers look great teamed with Hydrangeas and the small santini chrysanthemums in bouquets and table posies.
A beautiful and stately garden favourite and one of the few true blue flowers commonly available.
Colours: Blue shades, Lilac, White, Pink.
Team with Astilbe, Star of Bethehem and Sweet peas for a wild natural bouquet.
Nerine (Guernsey Lily)
An elegant single stem flower which peaks around August - September.
Colour choice: Pink shades, sometimes white and coral red.
A strong flower which can be used in most designs from buttonholes, hair flowers to wedding bouquets.
Nigella (Love in the Mist)
A pretty small flower with a soft colour palette, a favourite for weddings because of it's name and romantic image. The seed heads which appear later in the year are also great for buttonholes and ladies corsages
Team with veronica, waxflower and other lovely textures to create wonderful designs.
Meaning: Thank you for understanding.
Huge blooms which are most often used in large floral designs, though they do look good as a massed wedding bouquet, mixed with open roses. Hydrangeas are usually available throughout the Summer to Autumn and even early Winter but August is the peak for this beautiful bloom.
