How to plan a "Sequel Wedding"
Updated: Jul 10, 2020
And what is it?
A new wedding trend is emerging around the world.
Simply put, a sequel wedding is when a couple has more than one ceremony.
Often the actual marriage is smaller and more intimate - think micro wedding
During the recent pandemic, many couples had to postpone their wedding dates till 2021, but some chose to have a small marriage ceremony on their planned date, with just a few members of their family present.
A sequel wedding is a "Part 2" of the process where a bigger and better celebration is planned, once restrictions are lifted - leading to two amazing days!
It's definately the very best of both worlds, (plus you get to have two anniversaries to look forward to!).
This way you can still tie the knot on your planned day, and then have a fantastic celebration including all your family and friends later, who we are sure you wouldn't want to miss out!
The trend in 2020 is that couples are choosing to break with tradition and adopt a "more is more" aproach.
Two Guest lists, for instance. Consider the advantages...
Struggling to choose Bridesmaids for fear of offending some friends?
Now you can inlcude them all! There's so many advantages.
With families being seperated for such a long time, during the Covid crisis, the desire is to have a massive celebration when reunited. The balance is to assess whether the elderly relatives that couples want to be present will be safe , hence the two guest lists.
If you want your elderly or "at risk" relatives to be present to see you exchange vows, opt for a micro wedding or a minimony - a wedding that is shorter in length. You will have fantastic memories with them, without worrying about their health and you are also able to double the celebrations by planning a larger event later.
The bonus side of this is with a lot of postponed weddings being pushed forwatd to 2021 you may find the best wedding suppliers have been booked already. With a sequel wedding you can have a small ceremony now and then a second date when your dream wedding suppliers are available.
Look into weekday weddings if you are struggling to find venues and wedding specialists. They may have packages for you which will fit every need.
Sequel weddings are not new, many cultures hold multiple ceremonies.
If you have two different faiths or cultures it makes sense to celebrate with two events.
Celebs are also a big fan of sequel weddings - think of The Biebers, The Clooneys etc - you will be in A list company!
"Nearly one month after their wedding in Venice, the newlyweds celebrated again, this time with a party on Amal's home turf. The October bash was hosted by the bride's parents, Baria and Ramzi Alamuddin, at the historic Danesfield House Hotel and Spa 40 miles outside London in Buckinghamshire. "It was a very sympathique soiree," a guest told PEOPLE.
If you and your partner can't decide on colours or a theme for your 2020 wedding - you can now please both of you and have two different themes! Win win :)
